Primitive Living/Survival
This two-day course educates students about the four elements of survival and wilderness living, and how to find, build/gather, and maintain them. Students will learn what to bring on outdoor trips to aid in survival situations. Fire starting, shelter building, and food identification are major elements learned in this course.
Today’s outdoor arena is filled with high tech gadgets that in some ways take away the real vitality of what the forest means. In this course we ignore the existence of these gadgets and thrive on the accomplishments of our own wisdom and hands. While surrounded by the ultimate classroom, nature, we will practice and use newly acquired skills such as using fire as a tool, advanced wilderness cooking techniques, identifying flora and fauna and their significance, backcountry navigation, primitive shelter construction, environmental issues and concerns, and much more.
Participants should supply appropriate clothing for the weather, food, and water. We will provide all tools, equipment, and transportation to any on-site locations.
