High School and Middle School Climbing Teams
'18-'19 Winter Season Standings
About the Teams...
GMRCC has created a unique program for our local school age climbers.
In order to compete a team must consist of 5 or more climbers and a coach. And the best part is, NO CLIMBING EXPERIENCE IS NECESSARY for climbers or coaches, we can teach you everything you need to know. Coaches are given a detailed Coaching Manual which covers everything you need to know about coaching a climbing team and we provide all of the equipment and belay lessons for the climbers.
Climbing is not yet a VPA sanctioned sport, so it is up to the individual schools whether to recognize it as a "Varsity Sport".
How it Works...
Teams practice once a week and compete against other school at meets/comps once a month with a 'State Championship' against the top teams from our sister facility at the end of the season.
Practices take place after school at the gym and are guided by the coach. Each practice can consist of any mixture of fitness based activities geared toward improving one's climbing ability. Students will work to improve balance, footwork, body position, and other climbing techniques. These exercises will help them to develop healthy habits and core fitness.
Pricing...
It doesn't cost your school anything to start a team at GMRCC. Students wishing to participate simply pay to use the facility. They have the option to pay per day at the student rate of $12 (only for Rutland weekdays 3-6) or buy a student membership for $250. The membership is valid for the entire current school year and through the following summer, expiring on August 31st.
Members benefit from unlimited access to the climbing gym and all necessary gear is provided during regular business hours. Members also enjoy the perks of a 15% member discount on any GMRCC clinics, gear from our pro shop, and receive discounted day passes when you bring a friend.
